The Maliseet Trail

On Saturday, we headed off to the bustling metropolis of Meductic (there were, I kid you not, two old men sitting in rocking chairs at the Irving) for a little hike through the woods on the Maliseet Trail. After about 40 minutes we came to the falls - these pictures do it little justice. They are about 30m high and the roar coming off of them is impressive. Actually, the whole experience was pretty spectacular. Apparently the falls are most impressive during the spring run-off, so if you get a chance, you really should check it out.

A great book to have when you are bored and don't feel like forking over a lot of cash to be entertained is "A Hiking Guide To New Brunswick" by Marianne and H.A. Eiselt (who I coincidentally used to wait on at Pizza Hut on a weekly basis-I can still remember what they always ordered-why does useless info like this never leave our brains?). It is a gem of a little book-easy directions, good indicators of the degree of challenge to the trail and they point out interesting things that you can see along the way. A stroll through the woods is a nice way to spend an afternoon in New Brunswick and it has the added bonus of making your kids sleep well that night.
