Baby Claws

I hate baby fingernails and toenails for two reasons.

One, I absolutely cannot stand trimming them and wait until he starts to look like the curly nails guy in the Guinness Book Of World Records before I do it. I know you can chew them off but that grosses me out even though I often enjoy a little munch on my own digits. I have made Nate bleed twice and scream his head off numerous times due to a little pinch from the clippers. He is such a wimp.

The second reason I hate baby nails is because when he breastfeeds, he scratches my chest or digs his toenails into my stomach. It doesn't really hurt but it always reminds me of a little bat clinging on to it's mother Stellaluna style.

Today I had the pleasure of trimming 20 baby nails in one sitting/wrestling match. As annoying as it is, it is better than when I lived with Bad Grammy for a year and had to trim her inch thick hooves on a weekly basis. Her toenails were so thick I used to have to jump on the clippers to break through the nail. Perhaps that is a slight exaggeration, but not much. Thought I would leave you with that mental image.

Camera Happy

Can you tell we got a new camera for Christmas by the insane amount of pictures I have posted in the last few days?

Sharing...Sort Of

Thanks for the great new toy, Jim and Deb - it was a big hit with both of the boys. I wish someone would invent a kids toy that didn't make annoying noises along with stupid songs that get stuck in your head for hours.

More Babes

Sorry there are no pictures of the hilarious Mr. Finn but he was banished to the bedroom by his mommies before the festivities began.

The Trials And Tribulations Of The Sweet Potato

Yesterday I decided it was time to introduce Nathaniel to the exciting world of real food, since I don't consider rice flakes to be the height of culinary delight. I dug out my Christmas present from the ever wonderful Kristi on making baby food and went to work. In about an hour and a half, I had made from about $5 worth of fresh produce about $40 of baby food. I actually quite enjoyed pureeing the morning away. When I had all of my food divided up in ice cube trays and special little plastic containers, I was quite impressed by all the shades of yellows and oranges.

As I was making the food, it was nice to know no one else had touched my baby's food or added anything to it. Not to say I will never buy store bought baby food, but there was a content feeling to know there wasn't a discontented labourer in a canning factory scratching his ass while inspecting baby food jars.

That reminds me of when I had the illustrious job of being a "sandwich artist" in high school and my boss installed a surveillance camera due to a number of incidences involving employees and money missing. At our next staff meeting, he was pleased to tell us that he had never seen so many people scratch their ass and wipe their nose with their hand in a four hour shift. After having worked many years around food, I don't trust any one's hygiene while working for minimum wage.
