Real Jeans

We went to Moncton on Saturday and I bought Nathaniel a pair of jeans from the Gap. They were way too expensive for a small handful of material but they were so cute, I succumbed. These are his first "real" jeans-there are no rows of snaps running up both of the inseams nor do they have an elastic waistband. I couldn't stop squeezing his bum all day, he looked so adorable. When he isn't wearing a sleeper, he looks so much older...where is the time going?

Pot And Spoon

His newest trick - initially charming then mutates into irritating noise after 10 minutes. We quickly smartened up and exchanged a metal teaspoon for a wooden one, which helped a bit. He has also discovered something that has dramatically changed his life-he now collapses into tears and loud yowls if something he likes is taken away from him or moves out of his reach...surprisingly enough, as soon as he can get his slimy little paws on it again, he is all smiles. The art of manipulation at its earliest form.

The Millau Viaduct

This amazing bridge is located in the South of France and is quite frankly absolutely amazing. It opened in 2004 and is the world's tallest bridge for vehicles. It is only about 20m shorter than the Empire State Building. Makes the Confederation Bridge just a tad insignificant in comparison. Thought it was very cool and I wanted to share.

Fear Of Flying Intensified

As if the thought of flying doesn't reduce me to sweat and tears enough as it is, this runway at a ski resort makes me want to vomit. How insane is this?

Ready For A Looong Night

Nathaniel is sick and so am I. I think I am coming down with the flu-even my eyes and skin ache. It took me an hour to get him down for a nap when I got home-he is so miserable, nothing makes him happy...which in turn makes me want to lose my mind. I allowed myself to have a fantasy of driving out to Mom and Dad's sans baby for the night but decided that was probably not the "adult response" to the situation. To make the situation even more exciting, I think there may be some teeth on the way. He is drooling like an absolute maniac-it is beyond disgusting, plus he has bright red cheeks and a bit of a rash on his bum for the first time. I personally do not think it is fair to combine the flu, teething and having to go to work all in the same 24 hour period.

Oh my God, I just coughed and he screamed like a banshee. Someone save us from each other...

Send me some sympathy vibes, please.

Sale-a-thon

I went to the Superstore after work today and they had a ton of kids clothes on for great prices. I bought Nathaniel 3 bags of clothes-about 15 t-shirts, fall jackets, hoodies and long sleeve T's for less than $70. I don't know about anyone else, but I think they have sweet little clothes there and the regular prices are more than reasonable let alone being marked down twice. Just thought I would spread the news...

Look Mom, No Face Cloth!!

Hmmm...right before the Great One made his late appearance,I was looking through all of my shower loot to see if there was anything else I needed. I remember thinking I had way too many face cloths-how wrong I was. Iain and I go through a big handful of these things a day-they are great for baths, wiping off food smeared faces, soaking up puke and drool...even blowing your own nose in if you are in a jam. Plus they are re-usable and a little easier on the environment than using wipes and paper towels for everything.

Swinger Of Birches

Excerpt from "Birches"

When I see birches bend to left and right
Across the lines of straighter darker trees,
I like to think some boy's been swinging them.
But swinging doesn't bend them down to stay.
Ice-storms do that. Often you must have seen them
Loaded with ice a sunny winter morning
After a rain. They click upon themselves
As the breeze rises, and turn many-colored
As the stir cracks and crazes their enamel.
Soon the sun's warmth makes them shed crystal shells
Shattering and avalanching on the snow-crust--
Such heaps of broken glass to sweep away
You'd think the inner dome of heaven had fallen.
They are dragged to the withered bracken by the load,
And they seem not to break; though once they are bowed
So low for long, they never right themselves:
You may see their trunks arching in the woods
Years afterwards, trailing their leaves on the ground
Like girls on hands and knees that throw their hair
Before them over their heads to dry in the sun.

-Robert Frost

I have always loved that beautiful poem and it comes to mind after we have one of our icestorms. It pretty much sums it all up prefectly.

Don't make fun of me for putting a poem up either-there must be some gratification for having a B.A. afterall. I just looked at Adrienne's blog and she has a perfect picture of birch trees for this poem. Nice photo!

Holiday

Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow!!

Need I say anything else?

Although, I am not sure how much of a holiday it is listening to a whiny husband and 6 month old while trying to clean the house. At least at work I can give out detentions and we have janitors!

Growing

We were at the mall yesterday and I found this cute ball hat at The Children's Place. I tried it on him and I couldn't stop laughing...I thought he looked so sweet and quite a bit older. He is going to be six months old tomorrow-time flies!

Whenever the 11th of every month creeps up, I don't think so much about the day he was born as the day before he was born. I think about how uncomfortable, scared, sore, exhausted, cranky and excited I was. Things start changing at a pretty rapid pace as soon as you find out you are pregnant, but there can't be many bigger changes in life than the 24 hour period during which you go from being pregnant to looking at the little bundle for the first time.
